Community Solar

Community solar is solar that is available to everyone including, homeowners, renters, and businesses. Community Solar is a local source of energy connected to the power grid, to bring more affordable power to the community.

   Community solar lets individuals, businesses, or organizations buy or subscribe to a “share” in a community solar project. When you join a community solar project, you receive a credit on your electric bill each month. The size of your share determines how much credit you receive but will always be a guaranteed discount and savings. 

The U.S is pushing for total Grid Decarbonization and an Affordable Energy Sustainable Future. In order to reach this goal, everybody needs to participate. Because of this, all utility meters were switched to virtual/smart meters, in order to utilize solar power.  After this, a new charge was made on the utility bills, this charge goes to upgrading and maintaining renewable sources on the grid. Given that you have been paying for these projects, that is why it is free to join. 

Community solar does not have a contract associated with it because you are not buying, maintaining, or warranting solar panels. These Panels are already in place.  This is a free to join, and free to leave program. If you stay, you can enjoy the benefits and savings for the next 20+ years. 

No, community solar is not the utility company. Everything is still with your utility company. Community solar just produces credits that offset the KwH from month to month, and annually that you are billed from the utility. This is what helps keep the cost of electricity low.
